Welcome to Immersive Didactics!
Our motto is: “Learn to Engage!”, and we mean that. We want to work towards a world with way more equitable access to quality education. We believe that a large part of quality education can come from three things: (1) a solid, intuitive and effective didactical approach, (2) happy educators that collaborate effectively to engage and immerse happy learners into learning, (3) free access to materials that can help with these things. To that end, we’ve built this website. On here, you’ll find free access to articles and other resources that explain Immersive Didactics in such a way that it is understandable and actionable. Immersive Didactics itself can help educators design and carry out educational content that is immersive, effective and pleasurable for everyone involved. Moreover, Immersive Didactics focuses on the needs of both learner and educator. This way, we want to help educators and teams of educators shape modern and effective education that is both fairly effective and pleasurable, we want both educators and learners to want to come back for more.
Sounds great and all, but what is Immersive Didactics?
In a nutshell, Immersive Didactics is a novel didactical approach that integrates a large swath of the most impactful models, theories and insights from the broad fields of education, entertainment and neuroscience into a novel didactical approach to make education more effective and pleasurable for everyone involved. Immersive Didactics effectively consists of a wide variety of interdisciplinary articles and resources that are easy to understand and applicable in a huge variety of educational contexts. This website is meant as a depository for information and tools pertaining to Immersive Didactics.
The main novel key concepts in Immersive Didactics are:
– The Cycle of Immersive Education:
A brain-centric cyclical approach to Learning and education which aims to help educators understand learning and reach the cognitive state of Immersion in learners through engaging, effective and pleasurable subjective learning experiences. When this is done well, learners may be more prone to re-immerse themselves with the educational experience, entering a feedback loop.
– Education as a Performance Art:
A methaphor to help understand the inherent complexities of being an educator and that by this complexity, educating can never be perfected. As such, Immersive Didactics proposes an approach to education that views educating as a stage play with real interpersonal stakes and connections. An Imperfectable Performance Art where teachers, educational designers, management, support staff and other stakeholders need to make mistakes to improve collaboratively.
– The 3-Acts and Stages model for Immersive Didactics:
A flexible model that combines insights from entertainment, psychology, educational neurology and much more into an actionable and intuitive model for the design, performance and review of educational content on almost every perceivable Educational Level, from curriculum design to learning pathways, from individual classes to learning activities, from tough mentoring talks to small student-teacher interactions.
